Hells Canyon Recreational Area

Ranked as one of the more rugged areas in the nation, Hells Canyon is a 71-mile stretch of the fantastic Snake River Canyon. This is North America's deepest river gorge - more than 7,900 feet at one point (yes, even deeper than the Grand Canyon!) This recreation area is popular with outdoor enthusiasts of all types, from those who just want to take in the view to great whitewater rafting. Climates in the canyon range from desert-like surroundings of the canyon floor to the alpine atmosphere found at the top. The canyon also sports a diversity of wildlife and vegetation.
